That wouldn't end well for Android's public image from the security aspect. Voiding warranty and resetting data should be enough of a compromise for OEMs worried about phones being returned bricked and wiping data should alleviate the information security concerns.
I believe samsung is the only OEM who does not require wiping data to flash unsigned packages, but that is just to upsell and lock enterprises into the knox ecosystem, since data in the container would be lost when flashed.
There is no justification to lock bootloaders, I bet OEMs love out of warranty repairs. Few things about treble caught my eye, like, we can have a bloat-free stock android running over updated soc code. Moreover, one can compile an AOSP build that can be flashed on any phone.
Let's see if that includes the camera. Even the best flagships phone cameras suffer in custom ROMs. Camera processing for phones is always proprietary so when going to a custom rom the quality is awful since that isn't available to rom developers.

I would prefer to get a new phone this year, but it wont kill me if I have to wait another year. Besides, people are already working on porting oreo to the nexus 6, so I will probably have it on my phone before the v30 even releases.
And once I went through all that shuffling, I said I'd never have another phone that isn't either an Google phone or an iPhone because software trumps hardware. And here I am seriously considering an LG V I did love my LG G2.
And the software has gotten more 'stock' as time goes on, but I do worry about the software not being as smooth and fluid and not supporting some things that will come to the Pixel first and feeling left out. I upgrade once a year generally, so I'm not too concerned about next year's update.
It's all those little things in between. The big question is, are the LG enhancements floating bar, always on lock screen, wide angle camera, quad DAC, headphone jack more important than those Pixel software flourishes I also will be upgrading my iPhone to the iPhone 8 because yolo so if the V30 camera isn't sufficient in some situations, the iPhone will be.
